Prevention & Outreach Services

The Counseling Center staff and the Mental Health Ambassadors are available to present educational and interactive programs and workshops on a variety of mental health topics. Our interactive programs are designed to raise awareness in regard to mental health as well as educate audiences about coping skills and other wellness behaviors. We welcome requests to present to classes, clubs, teams, residence halls, and other student organizations.

To request an outreach program, please submit the outreach program request form (see link below).  If you have questions or would like help with planning before you submit the request form, please contact Dr. Brooke Powers, the Prevention and Outreach Coordinator (828-262-3180, Be prepared with your topic choice, group type and size, and the date, time, and location of your event. We ask that requests, including requests for interviews (for class projects, newspaper, radio, TV, etc.) be made at least two weeks prior to your scheduled event. Given sufficient time and staff availability, we will be happy to try to meet your request.  

Emergency Services

The Counseling Center offers after-hours emergency coverage for urgent mental health concerns such as suicidal thoughts, sexual assault, and other trauma.  Call the Counseling Center at 828-262-3180 and select the option to speak with the counselor on-call.
