In order to see a counselor, you can come by the Counseling Center during our Initial Consultation hours. You will need:
- Your ASU Banner ID Number
- An ASU ID card
- You must be currently enrolled to be seen.
There are certain hours available each day when you can come into the Center and see a counselor. Please keep in mind that Initial Consultation sessions are on a first-come, first-served basis. When you initially arrive, you will be asked to fill out paperwork, which will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. During the Initial Consultation session itself, which normally lasts 20-30 minutes, a counselor will work with you to determine what your needs are and how your needs can be best met. You may be referred to an individual counselor, a group, and/or another agency on campus or in the community. Please be aware that we often refer students to different agencies on campus or in the community based on their individual needs and our scope of services. Please also be aware that a Initial Consultation session is a consultation where needs are assessed, not a typical therapy session. At the end of your Initial Consultation session be sure that you understand what your next steps are before you leave. If you are uncertain, please call the Center at (828) 262-3180.
The Counseling Center also offers after-hours, on-campus emergency coverage (when school is in session during the Fall and Spring semesters) for trauma and life-threatening situations such as suicide and sexual assault. Call the Campus Police Department at (828) 262-2150. The counselor on-call will be notified and will call you back.
