Check out our Fall 2024 Group Therapy Options.
The Counseling Center offers a variety of groups to address a broad range of college student needs and experiences:
- Full-semester therapy groups: Therapy groups are designed to offer students a consistent space to process concerns, receive support, practice making changes, and to remember that they are not alone. These groups meet weekly throughout the course of the semester, allowing students to build trust and connection with fellow group members. Issues commonly addressed in our Understanding Self and Others groups include anxiety, depression, adjusting to college, relationship concerns, family issues, and more. We also offer specialized therapy groups for students with more specific concerns (i.e. trauma, eating concerns, etc.) or specific identities (gender spectrum, sexual orientation spectrum, other underrepresented identities, etc.)
- Half-semester skills groups: These groups invite students to connect with others while gaining skills for coping, mindfulness, and more. They are a blend of structured skills training, experiential activities, and between-session practice. Students will gain insight into their mental health concerns and be given opportunities to practice new ways to manage them. These groups typically meet for 4-5 consecutive weeks.
- Quick Access groups: Quick Access groups are designed to efficiently provide students with practical tools for managing common mental health concerns. Each group is offered weekly, lasts approximately 50 minutes, and is structured similarly to a class or workshop. Students are encouraged to attend several consecutive sessions in order to get the most benefit from the material covered. Quick Access groups do not require students to make a lengthy commitment or to disclose a great deal about themselves in the group, and their frequency means students can usually get started very soon after attending their initial consultation.
