Spring 2026 Full Semester Group Therapy Options
USO – “Understanding Self and Others" groups support students in building insight into how they relate to others, to the world around them, and to themselves. Students who want to address specific concerns as well as those seeking personal growth are welcome. This can be a good time to get peers’ perspectives on various issues, and to recognize that you are not alone.
USO Family Dynamics (Mondays 3pm - 4:30pm)
- This group will help you understand your thoughts and emotions better by finding support and connection with peers with similar family dynamics and experiences. Topics may include family backgrounds and patterns, boundaries, conflict, interpersonal communication, pressure from family, life transitions, and a lack of family support. If interested, contact Julia Padgett ([email protected]).
USO General (Wednesdays 10:30am – 12pm)
- This group is open to students with a wide range of present concerns, experiences, and backgrounds. Issues commonly explored include but are not limited to depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, transitions in life, self-esteem, and more. If interested, contact Aaron Cain ([email protected]).
USO Expressive Arts with Women of Color (Thursdays 10am - 11:30am)
- Looking for a space to talk, connect, and be creative with other students who might “get it”? This group is a relaxed, confidential space where you can express yourself and connect with others through art and conversation. We’ll use different creative activities such as writing, music, movement, drawing, and drama, as a way to start conversations about real experiences, identities, culture, and life as a student. You don’t need to be an artist or have any special skills! Just come as you are and be open to sharing, listening, and connecting with others who may have similar experiences. This is a space to feel heard, supported, and less alone. If interested, contact Libia Osorio ([email protected]).
LGBTQQ+ (Fridays 1pm – 2:30pm): This group will present an opportunity for students with a range of sexual orientations and gender identities to explore life challenges together. It will provide a therapeutic environment in which to address a variety of issues (e.g., coming out, spirituality, family relationships, depression, self-esteem, etc.). Goals include reducing isolation, finding support and making positive changes. If you are interested, have questions, or are wondering if this group is for you, then please contact Adriana Varela-St. Clair ([email protected]).
Trauma Recovery Skills Group (Tuesdays 2pm – 3:30pm): A structured group designed for those who have experienced traumatic events in their lives or who come from backgrounds in which they did not feel safe. Members will learn how their past experiences and their biology are affecting their lives now, and explore helpful strategies. Members will learn important insights about their patterns in relationships and skills to better manage their emotions. The group will focus on skills, but will also include limited sharing and support amongst group members. This group is most helpful for those who are ready to work on the effects of their past trauma and who may have some coping strategies but want to learn more. It is also helpful for support and understanding of others with similar experiences. If you are interested, have questions, or are wondering if this group is for you, then please contact Adriana Varela-St. Clair ([email protected]).
Quick Access Groups:
These groups run multiple times a semester. Students can start these groups within a short time after connecting to services.
Coping Skills Group (Mondays 4pm – 5pm): The Quick Access Coping Skills Group is a 4 week skills-based group that incorporates psychoeducation and experiential learning. Participants will learn about stress management and healthy coping skills. This group may be helpful for students experiencing stress, anxiousness, worry, and other life circumstances for which they would like more coping strategies. They will have the opportunity to learn and experience mindfulness-based practices including breathing exercises, unique meditation techniques, and expressive arts activities.
ACT-Based Skills Group (Tuesdays 2pm – 3:30pm): This 4-week group will help build skills based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to bolster psychological flexibility, a key part of improving your resilience, mental health, and overall well-being. In this group, you will both learn and practice in group how to relate in a different way to their experiences through a variety of techniques and skills. You will have the chance to discuss these experiences with fellow group members and build a shared community space. This group may be beneficial for a variety of concerns or experiences and students are able to join this group at the start of each 4-week section. If interested or have questions, please contact Joey Rento ([email protected]).
