Responding to Campus Crisis- Students


How to Access Services at the Counseling & Psychological Services Center

For Yourself:

  • Come to the Center during Walk-In Clinic hours (M-Th 1-4; F 1-3)**
  • Complete some computer forms in the Center
  • Meet with a clinician for a brief initial interview
  • A determination is made about the best services to meet your needs and you will be informed about getting started with those services

**If you are unavailable in the afternoons to come in during Walk-In Clinic hours, call the Counseling Center (262-3180) and inform the front desk staff of this fact. An appointment will be scheduled for you for an initial interview


For a Friend:

  • If you are concerned about a friend, you have several options
  • You can come to the Center during Walk-In Clinic hours (M-Th 1-4; F 1-3)** and consult with a clinician about how you can best help your friend
  • You can bring your friend to the Center during Walk-In Clinic hours (M-Th 1-4; F 1-3)**
  • You can call the Center (262-3180) and ask to speak to a clinician about your concerns

**If you (or your friend) are unavailable in the afternoons to come in during Walk-In Clinic hours, call the Counseling Center (262-3180) and inform the front desk staff of this fact. An appointment will be scheduled for you to come in for a consultation

To Access Services in a Psychological Crisis during Office Hours:

  • During normal office hours (M-F 8 am – 5 pm), come to the Center and tell the front desk staff you are experiencing a psychological crisis
  • A clinician will meet with you to assist in the crisis
  • If you have a friend in crisis, bring them with you to the Center

To Access Services in a Psychological Crisis After Hours (after 5 pm; on weekends) when classes are in session:

  • Call ASU Police Dispatch at 262-2150.
  • Ask to speak to the Counseling Center On Call Clinician
  • The emergency clinician will call you back to assist in the crisis

To Access Services in a Psychological Crisis After Hours when classes are NOT in session:

  • Call Watauga County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 264-3761
  • Ask to speak to the emergency clinician for New River Behavioral Health
  • The NRBH emergency clinician will call you back to assist in the crisis
