Eating Disorders and Body Image

There are a great number of students at Appalachian State University, and on other campuses across the country, who suffer, often silently, with feeling badly about their bodies and their selves. You may be reading this information because you are concerned about yourself, a loved one, a friend, a roommate, or because you're just curious about these issues. The information collected here has been developed by the staff of the Counseling Center, in order to give you an opportunity to confidentially explore information on these topics. We hope that you will be able to help yourself and/or others in seeking the assistance necessary to overcome these concerns. The Counseling Center provides confidential counseling services to ASU students and invite, as well as encourage you, to come in and talk to one of our staff members. Often times, students may be afraid to seek help for fear that someone will attempt to convince them that they need to gain weight or control their eating in some way. This is not true. The Counseling Center's goal is to help you feel the best you can and to support you in finding contentment. You may also anonymously ask a question of the Counseling Center staff through Ask Uncle Sigmund.
